Vice President J.D. Vance said that one of the reasons for the unaffordability of housing in the United States is the rising prices of housing due to demand from millions of illegal immigrants.
“But when we talk about housing and why housing costs are so high, we don’t talk enough about demand. And one of the factors that drives up demand for housing, as we know, is that a lot of people have come into this country illegally over the last four years. And that’s something that we have to work on if we’re going to significantly lower housing costs,” he said at a conference of mayors in Washington.
“Just think about it, if you allow 20 million people to compete with American citizens for housing prices, you’re going to have a huge and, frankly, completely preventable surge in demand for housing,” Vance emphasized.
After this point, Vance had to interrupt his speech due to shouts from the audience. He then continued his speech, noting that the administration of US President Donald Trump is ready for dialogue with those who hold views opposite to its position.
