How to calculate the length of a straight wooden staircase
If the house has a staircase, it is very important that it is comfortable, which means safe. Therefore, before working for work on the construction of a straight wooden staircase, some calculations need to be made.
Building rules define the parameters that must be taken into account when arranging any staircase located in a living room. So, the height of the riser should be no more than 22 cm, the width of the step is at least 22 cm, and the angle of inclination should not exceed 42 degrees. It’s hard and dangerous to walk on a tough staircase, more gentle – not very convenient.
Starting to calculations, you need to choose the appropriate height of the riser from 17.5 to 22 cm. It should be borne in mind that this value also includes the thickness of the step. Having measured the distance from the floor to the ceiling, we get the height of the march, which needs to be divided into a height of the riser. For example, the height of the march is 280 cm, and the riser is 22 cm. Dividing 280 by 22, we get 12.7. If the fractional number is obtained during the division, then it should be rounded, thus 12.7 turns into 13. So many steps will be in our staircase. Rounding towards the increase makes the staircase more gentle, towards the decrease – cooler. Now it is necessary to divide the height of the march into a rounded integer, thus calculating the height of the riser. In our case, it is 21.5 cm.
For further calculations, you need to choose a convenient step width for you, let’s say this is 25 cm. We multiply this parameter by the number of risers reduced by one and get the length of the march surface. That is, 13-1 multiply by 25 and get the length of our staircase equal to 300cm.
Based on these calculations, you can not only accurately choose a place for the stairs, but calculate how much material is needed for its manufacture.
