According to Windows Central, Microsoft is actively developing several new gaming devices at once. The company plans to release a portable console under the Xbox brand as early as 2025, and the next generation of full-fledged consoles will appear in 2027.

Microsoft is collaborating with gaming PC manufacturers such as ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer, which means that the portable device will be created by partners, and the Redmond giant will focus on the software and optimization. The console, known under the code name Keenan, will receive the signature Xbox design with a signature Xbox Guide button and will most likely run Windows.

The main focus is on the Microsoft Store and Game Pass subscription, but users will also be able to install Steam and other stores. The company is testing new Windows 11 features for portable devices, including automatic gadget detection and interface optimization for controllers. It also wants to remove the pre-installed software that is usually present on portable PCs such as the Lenovo Legion Go and ASUS ROG Ally to create a cleaner version of Windows adapted for gamers. If all goes according to plan, the device will appear in late 2025.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has already approved the development of a new generation of Xbox. The project has received the approval of CEO Satya Nadella, and is now actively preparing for release in 2027. Both a successor to the Xbox Series X and a new portable model of Xbox, created by Microsoft itself, are expected.

The company intends to make the next generation of consoles more closely integrated with Windows, making it easier for developers to adapt PC games. At the same time, backward compatibility with projects for past generations of Xbox will be preserved. Microsoft is also exploring the possibility of adding support for third-party stores such as the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Steam.

In addition, the company is developing new controllers with a direct connection to cloud services, which will allow you to switch between devices faster. It is already known that Microsoft plans to actively introduce artificial intelligence and cloud technologies into the Xbox ecosystem, which will improve the gaming process and interaction between platforms.

Microsoft has previously stated that the next generation of Xbox should be the “biggest technological leap” in the history of the brand.
